El Concurso Nacional de Chocolate Peruano will be held for the eighth time in Peru from 4 May to 15 July 2023, under the auspices of the International Chocolate Awards with the aim of promoting the emerging fine chocolate industry and fine cacao production in Peru. As one of the activities of the 2023 Salón del Cacao y Chocolate, in its international edition, the competition is organized in collaboration with the “Committee of the Salón de Cacao y Chocolate.” This groups is composed by the following national and international organizations: the Peruvian Association of Cacao Producers (APPCACAO), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (DEVIDA), the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERU), the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), the Ministry of Production, the United Nations Program (PN UD), the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), and Lutheran World Relief with the collaboration of NCBA CLUSA.

This contest, the first of its kind in a cacao-producing country, will take place in the historic city of Lima and is open to all organizations, companies and chocolatiers in Peru, accepting the following products: chocolate bars of origin (dark, with milk and white); flavored chocolate bars – natural flavoring ingredients – (dark, milk and white) with infusions or powders, with inclusions and fillings, pralines, bonbons, and chocotejas, chocolate-coated fruits, chocolate spreads, and cacao ingredients such as cocoa powder and cocoa butter.

The competition will be carried out according to a duly validated online system and will be in two stages, after receipt and coding of products, 1) General Evaluation, which consists of an appreciation of the products by a heterogeneous group of evaluators (qualified national and international guest judges) 2) Final Evaluation by a highly specialized Grand Jury.

This 8vo Concurso Nacional de Chocolate Peruano (Eighth National Peruvian Chocolate Competition) constitutes one of the activities of the 2023 Special International Edition of the XIV Salon del Cacao y Chocolate and the Awards Ceremony will take place online on July 15, 2023.


Eligibility

Open to all Peruvian companies with their main office or headquarters located in Peru. The competition accepts entries from the following types of products: plain/origin chocolate bars (dark, milk or white); flavored bars (dark, milk or white), with natural flavoring ingredients, with infusions, inclusions, pralines and drageés. bonbons, and chocotejas, chocolate-coated fruits, chocolate spreads, and cacao ingredients such as cocoa powder and cocoa butter.
We are not accepting products with a shelf life of less than two months for this competition in the following categories: ganaches, truffles/ bonbons, and spreads. We do not accept drinking chocolate and alcoholic drinks with chocolate. The international Chocolate Awards holds a yearly world competition for these products, which is open to producer from all over the world, including Peru.

The 8vo Concurso Nacional de Chocolate Peruano is a Cacao Country Support Competition and not part of our World Final qualifying series of competitions for 2023. National prizes will be presented in Lima as part of the activities of the Salón del Cacao y Chocolate.

The admission fee for this competition is USD $25 and the fee for each entry is USD $20. Prices will be converted into local currency by your credit card company, if required.

  • Bars: 300 total weight
  • Filled/bonbons etc: 30 pieces
  • Spreads: 1 jar (min 300 grams/10 ounces) per product
